Discover Pikes Wines - where our iconic Clare Valley Riesling is just the start of an exciting wine journey.

When you hear “Pikes,” chances are you think Riesling - and not just any Riesling, but the crisp, clean, iconic kind that’s become a Clare Valley benchmark. And while we’re proud of that, there’s much more to the story. From classic reds to Mediterranean styles made for food and friends, there’s plenty more to discover.

Pikes Wines: A family tradition built on quality, since 1886

The Pike family has been crafting beverages in South Australia since 1886, beginning with beer and cordials before establishing Pikes Wines in 1984. That tradition continues today at our Polish Hill River estate, where we focus on making expressive, regional wines with purity, structure and longevity.

Four varieties that define Pikes

While Riesling is at the heart of what we do, we also champion three other core varieties that consistently thrive on our site: Shiraz, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. & Riesling

Bright, mineral and citrus-driven - our Riesling is estate-grown and consistently dry, made to reflect the purity of our slate soils and cool climate.

Shiraz

Clare Valley Shiraz, particularly from Polish Hill River, shows elegance and spice. Ours is medium-bodied with dark fruit, subtle oak, and savoury lift.

Sangiovese

Naturally fresh and vibrant, this red brings red cherry, gentle tannins and great food flexibility - a nod to our love of Italian varieties.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Structured, pure and long on the palate. Often blended with a small amount of Malbec, this wine delivers regional character with finesse.

Mediterranean varieties on the rise

In recent years, we’ve introduced Mediterranean grapes like Albariño, Montepulciano, Nero d’Avola and Fiano - varieties that perform beautifully in our climate. These wines offer freshness, texture, and plenty of character, while staying true to the site and the Pikes style. They’re approachable, but built with integrity.

Estate-grown and made to last

Our wines are grown on slate, clay and limestone soils in Polish Hill River - a cooler sub-region of the Clare Valley. These soils limit yields and drive concentration, while cooler nights lengthen the growing season allowing for full flavour ripeness whilst retaining natural acidity and aromatic lift across both white and red varieties. It’s a site that rewards attention to detail - and one that continues to shape our winemaking philosophy.
